Pacific Rim National Park Reserve of Canada

On the west Coast of Vancouver Island is the Pacific Rim National Park and Reserve. It is an amazing mix of the raw power of the open ocean and the quiet green of the rain forest. For anyone interested in spending time in the outdoors there are a variety of activities from kayaking, to surfing to hiking to beach combing. One needs to make their way to Vancouver Island, either on the BC Ferry system, the Private Black Ball Ferry from Port Angeles, WA or by flying. Once to the island the drive north through Nanaimo and then west over the mountains and then out to the open ocean is gorgeous. A recommended stop along the road is Cathedral Grove. And old growth forest with easy paths.

This park has several well-kept trails that, though not challenging enough to constitute a hike, make for great nature walks. Many trails have boardwalks, stairs, and ramps. The park's Long Beach area is a great place for a beach stroll and for viewing the surfers try the waves.
